What are the safety requirements for stanchions?
Australian safety standards state that the height of a handrail above the floor must be between 900mm and 1100mm. However, in places where fall from height is significant it’s recommended to increase the height to at least 1000mm.
If being used as a guardrail, these must be designed to sustain a single acting force of 600 Newton. They must also be able to sustain a minimum of 350 N/m acting downwards or outwards at any part of the system.
